Health trends come and go but one wellness phenomenon that shows no sign of slowing is CBD (Cannabidiol), one of many cannabinoid compounds found in cannabis. While it does not appear to alter consciousness or trigger a “high”, there are several scientific studies that show it may help with the management of certain neuropsychiatric disorders, including epilepsy, anxiety, and schizophrenia. Evidence also suggests that CBD may have a calming effect on the central nervous system.

But what about its ability to help improve sleeplessness and anxiousness?

A large retrospective case series at a psychiatric clinic looked at the clinical application of CBD for anxiety and sleep complaints as an adjunct to conventional treatment. The retrospective chart review included monthly documentation of anxiety and sleep quality in 103 adult patients.

The results were measured by sleep and anxiousness scores, using validated instruments, at baseline and after CBD treatment.

The final sample consisted of 72 adults presenting with primary concerns of anxiousness (n = 47) or poor sleep (n = 25). Anxiousness scores decreased within the first month in 57 patients (79.2%) and remained decreased during the study duration. Sleep scores improved within the first month in 48 patients (66.7%) but fluctuated over time. In this chart review, CBD was well tolerated in all but 3 patients.

The conclusion is that Cannabidiol may help alleviate anxiety-related disorders and this finding will be further consolidated as more and more clinical studies are being done.

The CBD oil is one of the most sought after oils as it contains a high concentration of the CBD (Cannabidiol) that has various health benefits without causing the characteristic ‘high’ that the THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) can cause. CBD is regarded as a Phytocannabinoid (Phyto – from a Plant) and together with our Endocannabinoids present in our body, help to bring about balance (Homeostasis) in our body.

The most popular application for CBD oil is for anxiousness, pain, inflammation, sleeplessness, restlessness, colitis, stress and high blood pressure.

A recent study shared the effects of CBD oil on restless leg syndrome, and concluded that CBD oil has relaxing benefits for RLS patients, offering a higher quality of sleep as the symptoms of RLS were lessened after taking the CBD oil.

How To Use CBD For Anxiety

CBD oil and product dosages for anxiety will naturally differ from person to person, as well as the type of CBD product, and how it’s administered. Another study revealed that 300–600 mg of CBD reduced the symptoms of anxiety in 57 adult men, so that may make it a little easier to judge where to start and work out how much CBD is right for you.
