WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR BODY WHEN YOU DON’T SLEEP
Life is busy. Between trying to meet every deadline, keep up a regular exercise routine and maintain a social life, there just aren’t enough hours in the day. This sometimes means that sleep takes a backseat, which it really shouldn’t.
Sleep is the brain’s way of cleansing and refreshing itself. Without adequate rest, many of our bodies’ systems cannot function properly.
Here are just some of the things that happen to the body when we don’t get enough shut-eye:
Loss of concentration
If you don’t get enough sleep, you may experience attention and learning problems, so if you find yourself unable to concentrate more than usual, you may need to work on catching a few more Zs at night.
Bad choices
We all make bad decisions every now and then. However, if you’re not well-rested, you’re more likely to experience poor judgement and impulse control issues. Some studies have even said people who have been missing out on sleep are comparable to people under the influence of alcohol when it comes to impulse control.
More sickness and infection
Lack of sleep puts you at higher risk of infection, due to reduced antibodies, and draws out your body’s recovery time.
Weight gain
People who suffer from a long-term lack of sleep are at an increased risk of being morbidly obese.
This is at least partly because over-tiredness leads us to want food even when we’re not hungry and to care less about the consequences of the food we eat — not a great combination.
Heart disease
One study concluded that those who sleep less than six hours a night are twice as likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease as those who get an adequate amount of sleep each night.
Low libido
One 2015 study found that when women slept just an hour more each night, the chances of them having sex with a partner the next day increased by 14 percent. If just one hour can work that much magic, imagine what a few extra hours a night can do for your libido.
If you’re struggling to get to sleep, take Releaf Theanine, a product of natural origin believed to act as a caffeine antagonist, temporarily promote relaxation, and maintain a healthy sleep pattern.
